Artist Statement
Creativity is an essential part of my life, from designing paper dolls as a child to teaching art as my life career. However, now that I’m retired, I’m finally able to develop my love of fibers and color in my basketry, weaving, and gourds. I love the intricate designs and patterns of Native American baskets and in their patterns I am able to experiment with bold color combinations.
My gourd birds are a little offshoot of my personality, allowing the whimsical side of my life to emerge. I love being able to use art to tell a story and elicit enjoyment into the viewers’ heart.
There are other fibers in my life; papers, yarns, fabrics, and the not so obvious ones that entwine us together. As a lifelong learner, I can see different sculptural forms emerging in my future!
