SISTERS JEWELRY DESIGN

Yes, we are sisters!  Mary Paul Lewis lives in suburban Chicago. Kay Mehlberg hales from Hales Corners, suburban Milwaukee.  Although we do not work together, our work is complementary.  When we get together to share our latest designs, we are always pleased to see how well our creativity coordinates.

Focusing on providing high-quality, affordable hand-crafted jewelry, most of our pieces are made with Sterling silver, and we use gold-fill and copper as well. We love to work with glass, ceramic, freshwater pearls and natural stones.

Even as a child I expected to become an artist.  But after college I had to choose between teaching art or elementary school and I became a first grade teacher with little time for the painting and pastels I loved.

After many years, a stash of mid-century beads and a class in wire working drew me

to making jewelry.  I have always loved color and texture. I discovered Murano and lampwork glass that delighted my sense of color and beautiful natural stones.  I found that I could create interesting lines with wire to enhance my designs.

I am an earring junkie and found that most beads begged to be earrings at first. Since then, I’ve branched out to creating bracelets and necklaces as well.  Most of my creations are modern and relatively simple. I want my jewelry to be interesting and fun to wear.

On a wonderful vacation with my sister, Kay, I discovered beads and making jewelry and a way to show my love of bright, shiny objects.  I began to explore the world of jewelry making and found that wire wrapping and silver captured my heart.  I’ve enjoyed teaching and sharing my skills in jewelry making and love making funky, one of a kind pieces.
